The American Kennel Club: AKC
The
AKC was formed on September 17th 1884 in Philadelphia and is the oldest dog registry in the United States. This
organization maintains the standards and registries of many dog breeds and promotes responsible dog ownership. The AKC also
develops and enforces the rules and regulations governing dog shows, obedience trails, tracking tests, field tests, hunting
tests, agilities trails and several other informal events.
Full
Registration
Full
registration means that the dog has all future breeding rights through AKC provided that all other criteria required have
been met; AKC will allow you to register future offspring which are produced from two parents who are AKC registered with
full registration status
Full
registration status may also be required for buyers who wish to obtain future working Siberian Husky titles for their dogs,
or plan to participate in the AKC breed competitions show ring as well as many working and AKC categories.
Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white
with a purple border.
Limited Registration
Limited Registration means
that the dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration.
No
offspring of a dog for which Limited Registration has been granted is eligible for registration. Each registration certificate
for such dog shall carry notice of the limitation, and the limitation shall continue, regardless of any change of ownership,
unless and until the owner(s) of the litter at birth shall apply to AKC for removal of the limitation."
A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in
a licensed or member dog show. It is eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member event.
Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white
with a purple border.
